History
Rusty Tyack, the founder and Head Instructor of Conquest Self Defense, uses his passion for martial arts to proclaim the Gospel of God and disciple students. In 2009, he answered a call from God to teach martial arts for God’s glory, and he did so for 11 years through a sports ministry in Puyallup, WA. During this time, he was equipped to answer another call from God that came in 2020.
In 2020, God called Rusty to use his 30+ years of martial arts experience to develop and launch a non-profit ministry, exclusively in the martial arts arena, and to serve the families and students in East Tacoma by teaching them to live and worship Jesus Christ in all aspects of life.
Rusty holds an interdisciplinary degree in Art and Sports Management, focused on Sports Ministry, from Liberty University.
In 2021, Rusty’s son, Bradley, answered the call to serve Christ in this mission field by using his extensive martial arts and wrestling experience as the full-time Director of Youth Programs and Discipleship. Bradley holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical Theology from Liberty University.

Coaching Standard of Excellence
Every aspect of our lives, including martial arts training, is an opportunity to worship and reflect Christ for His glory alone. CSD coaches maintain rankings and coaching certifications in an effort to provide the highest level of training that they can offer. We do this not only because this is the standard in the martial arts community, but because God commands us to use our talent and ability to bless others for His glory alone.

Set Apart for Christ and His Glory
We desire to bring glory to the name of Christ and this is why the Bible is opened and a Christ centered message is proclaimed at each and every training session at CSD. We believe that the Gospel is the power of God and the only message that can change a life for eternity.
Through discipleship, we challenge our students to take this message into the community, through word and deed.
Train for the Cost of a Donation
We are a donation only martial arts academy. At CSD we offer the same high level instruction to everyone, for the cost of a donation. There are no monthly tuitions or contracts. This removes any financial barriers that may prevent a student from receiving training and hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Funding for Conquest Self Defense is provided through generous private donors and business owners from our community who believe in the mission of CSD, which is to proclaim and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the arena of martial arts, developing ambassadors of Christ, ready to give an account of the hope that is in them.
However, “donation” does not mean that there are no costs attached to providing the opportunity for students to train and hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The cost associated with providing a high level of training in a clean and safe environment is significant and we ask our students and families to pay what they can afford for the training.
